This is my third attempt at posting a thread haha. One I wrote was quite long and detailed so I am slightly bummed. Anyway. my name is Andrea Polla and I am an American living in Sweden and was diagnosed with fibromyalgia a couple of weeks ago however, like many I had symptoms going back for several years. I am looking for a pen pal who has similar interests and has had fibro longer to give me some info and share their experueces with me. I am both relieved for a diagnosis and depressed and have hit a slump. As for now docs are running an onslaught of tests and I only have pain medicine. I am just a ghost of myself and can´t seem to accept the reality. i am lonely and well, lonely is my biggest issue. sincerely, Andrea Polla

New too, diagnosed this month. I'm curious as to how Sweden treats this compared to the US.

Hi Andreap,
I was diagnosed in June. This forum is a great place to have lots of "pen pals" to commiserate with and get advice. It's also a great place to share any tricks or discoveries you have that might help others. Welcome to the forum!

Hi andreap...i did a welcome post yesterday but lost it too!

So you will find lots of support here. Everyone has a different story. Some live fairly good lives with fibro generally limited to only parts of them...others have it so bad they are housebound and very restricted in activity.

Take Good Care of yourself and you could keep yours under control. Accepting the reality is so hard. I totally understand this feeling. IT took me 2 years to stop feeling 'this can't be happening'.

I am in the UK and have had fibro for 7/8 years that crept up on over a few months...maybe a year until i could no longer hope/pretend it was going to go away.

I read that on October 10th of this year the United States, Officially recognized Fibromyalgia as a disease in and of itself rather than a group of symptoms or syndrome..something like that. So currently what differentiates is how we categorize the term "fibromyalgia", In our medical diagnostics disease code book, there is no fibromyalgia according to my general practitioner which sounds ridiculous if true as we have a fibromyalgia and Inflammatory clinic/wing of the largest university hospital in my area AND the specialist chose the diagnostic term Fibromyalgia. I would think until it is more clarified here will be hard to get disability assistance for which is scary.

Hello, I was diagnosed in September this year but have been suffering for a while now. I take Gabapentin 3 times a day plus a muscle relaxer for when it gets real bad. They also gave me a nausea pill cuz I problems with that. I have it so I am home bound. I have to use a walker to get around. If I do venture out beside dr appointments I have to use a wheelchair. Did I mention I'm only 34yrs old. I have days that I have myself my own little putty party. I get very lonely being trapped at home. I do have a great husband and 3 kids. But I just got here looking for people that understand what I'm going through. So I completely understand how you feel. I know it has to be hard being out of the country doing this. I hope they get some meds for you that can help you out.
