Wish you the best as well! Are these forms online somewhere? Any link would be helpful - I was at my doctor's yesterday but I only get to see the nurse practitioner - she was not helpful (perhaps she's not aware of the forms or the process). Can you help direct me to how to obtain the forms? Thank you so much! Stephanie

Stephanie, look at an earlier post I submitted on this link. This forum will not allow any links. They wipe them out. I tried. So, type in "Canadian Social Security" and "Disability Digest". The digest site will give you excellent pointers on how to succeed. The Canadian site will provide you with the links and forms you need to apply.....Hope that helps as it's the best that I, or anyone on the site, are allowed to do....

Hey,
I've been trying since Jan 2012 to get disability. I have other ailments too but I have heard that since fibromyalgia is so new of a disease, it is harder to get approved. I'm not sure but I know that I have been denied once an am appealing right now. I was informed by my lawyer that I will be waiting for only a year instead of two or more (yay) because now they do webcast hearings or whatever. There are more hearings because of the internet and being able to video cast the hearings. Just Han in the r e and don't give up. Keep your chin up and you get back pay for whenever you started your case. More and more fibromyalgia sufferers are getting approved so keep on fighting! I know it is hard but we deserve help for all we have to face. If you have more questions, and I know the answer, I will do what I can.

So I just called in for an appeal and a Lawyer. This is what I am getting. You have to be consistent with every single appointment. If you haven't discussed an issue or recently then it needs to be addressed. If you were not able to be consistent with the appointments then try and get a written letter from your doctor stating why. Make sure you get a written document from your main physician stating your problems and the reason why you are not able to work. Next it doesn't hurt to get something from your other doctors separate stating your issues either. Make sure to also share that with your main physician to help him/her to make the conclusion. I have been treated for years on different things. And how they do it is that for 1 consistent year it has been a problem.

They will turn you down first they push everyone who is not clear cut to re apply. But don't give in you have to push and it will take more than a year.

Also go to the Service Canada Office the clerks there are paid to help you go through the paperwork. Don't let them just give you the paperwork and send you out the door ask for help.

yeah I actually applied 9 months prior and it was denied. So I held it off thinking I could get more paperwork... Yeah its best to appeal to keep the case open instead of starting from scratch again.

Yes I think that's what I was asking about = the SSDI. Thank you - I googled it and found where to apply online. Thanks every one!

I've tried to keep in contact with SSD and provide any new documentation I have when I get it. I was told Thursday that a decision has been made but it's having a second review. Not sure what that means but she wouldn't tell me. I was approved by the state's long term disability. I guess that's a challenge. She wants me to send a copy when I get it. Soooo, maybe by the end of the month I'll be retired on medical disability with work AND have notice on Social Security....Been waiting since August.....

Hello ,I realize this is a old topic and also live in Canada, CPP-Long term disability too me over 2 years of continuous fighting to receive. My husband and I actually lost almost everything in that time and are still rebuilding, but once you speak to the right person it will happen. Persistence, persistence. I was approved in 2010 and paid back to the beginning of when I became disabled, but still have not been approved for my DTC-disability tax credit. This will be my second time applying, first time I did it on my own with the doctors. This time I will be going through an agency. If anyone in Canada has any recommendations I would love to know who. Thanks and best of luck. :)

I used to be on Disability when i was a kid cause of my learning problems. Where i get help at they just informed me they can help me get on Disability again.

No I have been sitting on it for 3 years and finally decided to give it a go after I had enough info to apply. I applied in for a lawyer to help. I think I started it in September. Now I am just waiting on my Doctor to go ahead and send a written letter about my disability. I have waited for 2 weeks for my Doctor but nothing yet. I can't proceed until he faxes it to my Lawyer. So now its a waiting game.

I applied for it in August. I have a long documented history of my health conditions. I'm still waiting. I know mine (and likely most of us) are somewhat complex so I think it takes longer. My list of conditions are as long as my arm and fill up a piece of paper. As I've indicated in earlier posts, I have kept in contact with them through the last 6 months. I also have provided them information when I gather it. I was just approved for Long-Term Disability through the state (which is almost unheard of so I'm told). I am also being released from employment due to my medical condition because I am unable to work. Didn't quite hit 30 years... :-( So I called SSD and asked if they wanted copies. She thought it would be a good idea to have record of that. She also told me that my claim is in a 2nd review, but couldn't tell me what that meant. I should get my LTD letter in a day or so. I received my $50 a month back-pay from them, totaling $300 on Monday. Every little bit helps. I'm scared now that I will be officially unemployed at the end of the month. I sure hope I hear something positive soon...

I am so glad this discussion was started. I was looking into getting disability. I am currently working and struggling because of my brain fog and calling in on my flare up days. I think my days are numbered with them. I just want to put my notice in and quit. Makes it hard to give up a paycheck, but I don't want to be a liability to a company that keeps giving me chances to not make mistakes. I used to thrive in fast pace and multi-taking jobs. Now I can barely function on one task at a time. Let me know how it goes for you.

Rdanchise, just a thought that I mulled over with my work. I started with working part-time, then my physician put me on a month off for medical leave. It ended up being extended for a total of 6 months. My work discouraged me from "quitting" and so they ended up letting me go on a disability separation. They agreed that it would do a couple of things. 1) Hopefully help my request for social security disability, and 2) is not in my personnel file if I should by chance get better and want to reenter the workforce. It was a very respectable way to end my almost 30 year career. I don't know what kind of relationship you have with your employer, but if you really feel your days are numbered, start strategizing (with or without their help). I'm a very competitive person (used to play sports). My goal is to get it the first time. I've told my husband that my last job is to get this approval.

Just think about what you can do to set yourself up for success. If you don't have a medical trail, start seeing doctors and get into specialists. If you've already done that then start talking with them about your thoughts. Remember, it's your life that is impacted in the end....There are websites that will give you advice on how to win. Unfortunately, I found them after I applied, but much of what I did is in their list. It's still really good information. I'm not allowed to give you the website information, but just google "Fibromyalgia Digest"....Good luck and hang in there.... Gentle hugs...
