My rheumatologist suggested I start seeing a reflexologist after my last appointment. I went and saw one at my normal physical therapy office. When I had my session she thought that I would benefit from craniosacral therapy instead. I am willing to try anything to help so I agreed and if it didn't help, we would go back to the reflexology.

I had my first session yesterday and I can stay without a doubt that it has helped. I have had this lower back pain for 10 months without any relief and after that session it was gone. I don't really understand what it is she did exactly, but it was awesome. I am hoping that with my next sessions that we see more improvements with my other symptoms. :)

Can you explain what it is or what it is supposed to do? I have not heard of it, but I'm excited for you that you found relief!

The way it was described it to me is a light massage of certain areas that help adjust the flow of cerebrospinal fluid. It is working on the Skull, and down to the Sacrum (the base of the spine) the fluid should have a pulse of a certain frequency and the therapist can feel it. When I came in she said it was high and after the session she said it was much lower. I couldn't tell the difference myself and there wasn't a tool she used that measured it, but it was clear after I got back to work that something was different as the pain in my back had vanished.

I should mention that the pain a felt for a long time was at the sacrum area, the other physical therapists was telling me that my hip flexors were to short and that is what was causing the pain, after this I don't know of that is true or not.

 Well, I see that @Siderea asked the exact question I was going to ask... and with almost the same words! Thank you for explaining what it is, @bgregoire . I'm glad to hear that it gave you relief and I'll need to mention that to my friend with chronic back problems.

Is your lower back pain fibro related, or caused by an injury of some kind or a disc problem, etc.?

I think it was fibro related, it all started at the same time. There wasn't a specific injury that would have caused it

debee861,
Thank you for bring this information to light. I have never heard of your rare disease but you are lucky in the fact that the doctor's at the hospital you were taken to were able to diagnosis it so quickly and get you headed in the right direction toward management of the condition.
In answer to your question had I every had a spinal MRI? Yes, I did. I was told that a section of my spine was in bad shape, but other doctors in viewing the films said it was normal. What was found had nothing to do with the disks, but a thinning of the bone in the T1 (I think) section. I thought that was what caused the weakness in my upper legs but never got a straight answer from my doctors.

Also welcome to the forum. I hope that some of the information here can help you with your condition as to pain and fatigue, and any questions you may have on pain medications. Please join in on the topic sections and post where you like. See you around the forum. :)

baregoire,
As for hearing about the craniosacral therapy, I have never heard of it but have read a lot about reflexology and about the flow of energy in our bodies that if impeded can cause certain conditions to develop. It seems those trained in this can feel the changes in the flow of blocked energy and maybe other fluids and improve circulation by different kinds of massage. I am glad the treatment seems to have worked for you and I hope you will keep us informed of how things go. Thanks for sharing..:)

This is very interesting. I might need to look into this myself, although I do get acupuncture along the sides of my spine. I wonder if that has a similar effect? Thanks for sharing!

Oh my G-d! This sounds amazing! I'm so happy for you! I'm in the middle of a really bad flare, my back is killing me, so is my neck and shoulders! So yeah, I know how awful back pain can be :( It's so amusing you found relief after that single session! It sounds so encouraging that if I have the chance I will really go for it and try it :) No doubt about it. Sadly I'm not sure I can find this in country, let alone my city, but hopefully I will be moving to Europe soon, so I might have a lot new options over there.

Please keep us posted, we are all interested to hear more about your progress and how effective that therapy can be.

Craniosacral Therapy is in the US. At least it is in my area. I've had it and it felt pretty good. My last session, however, I developed a octocal (sp) migraine. It felt like one of the best sessions I had. About 2 hours later, I couldn't see in front of me and everything was blurry, then wavy. The next day I got into my eye specialist and she knew right away what it was. I think I've had minor ones before, but I have no idea if it was related. Scared me to death that I just haven't gone back. It's been described the same to me and that they are slowly realigning the bones in your skull that pinch or put pressure in the flow of the fluid from the cranial area down your spine.
