I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia in July after several years of ruling out every other possibility under the sun. I do believe that my Mother also had this however in her day it was attributed to "old age aches and pains" and she suffered for years.

It has been a very trying few years as I have been put on so many drugs, anti depressants that I cant possibly remeber them all..none of them worked and pretty much just made me feel crazy to accompany the pain.

I finally found a doctor that doesnt treat me like its all in my head and he is a pain management specialist, after reviewing the loads of meds I have taken he tried Lyrica, Cymbalta and Gabetin (sp) all to no avail as I cant tolerate the side effects. I am now on Percocet and take a small amount in the evening in order to sleep as I also have RLS. I work fulltime by luckily work from home so spend my days with hot water bottles on my shoulders, neck you name it. I am just so grateful right now to sleep at night as that rarely happened to me in 3 years and I was pretty beat up.

I am glad I found this forum, I have friends and family but would love to make new friends that truly understand what I am going through.

Jacqui,
Hi there and welcome. I was so happy to hear that you have a doctor that understands fibro and is working with you trying to manage your condition. Having a doctor that believes in you makes the difference in your physical and mental well-being. I know that in my cause if I would have had supportive doctors in the begining of my diagnosis it would have made a world of difference in my life. So your news is good news.

I also understand the problems of medication side effects. I am allergic to most medications including your med percocet. Hives and breathing problems are the norm for me. Then add in the stomach problems and well just some meds are best left alone.

I am sure you have a few opinions to share about things that you have experienced in the wait for your diagnosis and maybe ways you have coped with the symptoms of muscle pain and fatigue, etc... Please join in and answer others questions, as well as, ask a few of your own. See you around the forum. :)
