Male, early 30s, dealing with bilateral hand pain for 2 years. Office desk job. No other illnesses.
I'm having a hard time finding a doctor who knows what's going on and WHICH kind of doctor is the right doc for my situation. Two years ago I began experiencing pain in my wrists/thumb/palm/back of both hands. Nothing in the fingers, no swelling or stiffness of any kind. The pain in both hand has been moving around as well. I no longer have the wrist pain as frequent but experience pain in the palm/thumb area. Currently the pain is in the web part between thumb and index finger. Here's a timeline of all the things I've done in an attempt to get a diagnosis in order over the last 2 years.

1 - Orthopedic surgeon- MRIs both hands - thumbs/wrists - clean (no diagnosis)
2 - Hand specialist- X-rays - clean (no diagnosis) - tried Pensaid and Vimovo
3 - Physical therapy for a month or so - didn't help
4 - Self diagnosed - DeQuervain (Finkelstein test) - went to Orthopedic surgeon and got cortisone shots for both hands on wrists right below thumb - didn't help
5 - Hand specialist- said I have hyperlax joints - referred me to a Rheumatologist - no diagnosis
6 - Rheumatologist- blood test - no indication of RA - borderline for Lupus - took Melaxicom for one month, no help
7 - Hand specialist - did X-ray again and viewed MRI from step 1 - all clean - got cortisone shots again in same area as step 4 - didn't help
8 - Pain Management Specialist - did full test for arthritis - came back negative - no diagnosis
9 - Neurologist - Began experiencing twitches all over the body and told him about hand pain - he prescribed Gabapentin 300mg - helped with the twitching but didn't help hand pain - said it could be Fibromyalgia - twitching is slightly less now. He's no whaving me increasing dosage to 600mg gabapentin to see if it helps with hand pain. Next step for him might be to get on Lyrica.

Does anyone have similar experience with hand pain in both hands? Any solutions or leads or anything to help? Much appreciated and thanks for reading.

Hi mark

I've had joint pains for years, the worst affected are my hands & knees. I tested negative for RA, ultrasound on my hands & feet didn't show anything of any significance & x-rays of my knees didn't show any signs of osteoarthritis. Has your rheumatologist checked the tender points on your body? This was what made my rheumatologist suspect fibro but like you, I don't have a firm diagnosi yet. Sorry, I know that's not much help to you, I just wanted to let you know you're not alone.

i have hand pain in both hands but i also have pain all over. My fibro did start with just bad pain in both feet 11 years ago. It could well be fibro..i would lay off the steroid shots as far as i am aware they do not help fibro and repeated shots cause actual damage..I hope the double gabby helps...take care with Lyrica as i know many people get side affects..it doesnt mean you will just maybe start when you have days with no commitments.

Has anyone suggested it could be repeative strain..i know its not likely as i gather you get stiffness and you say no stiffness.

Does the pain built with use and ease with rest a good indicator of fibro.
