Hi,

It is a very sensitive topic for me because it made me live in shame and self-hatred for most of my life.

I have wet my bed every night till the age of 22. In that time my parents took me to many doctors, we tried many meds and methods...until an amazing urologist solved the problem with the right combination and dose of meds. (Tofranil, Detrusitol and Minrin)

But I have also woken up feeling exhausted my whole life. My mornings have always been hell.

Now with fibro, I am beginning to think the two are related and/or that it is caused by some sort of sleeping disorder.

So my question to you is; have any of you wet the bed into adulthood, or maybe still do? Do you think it could be related to your fibro?

(PS I am looking into an experienced sleep disorder center and hope to have a sleep study done soon)

Ive not heard of this but maybe the sleep centre if you can get a study done will find some answers....or have you seen a neurologist as these things can be rooted in some other disorder..im surprised the urologist hasnt pointed you in that direction for more tests.

Fibro sufferers typically have sleep problems to..my personal belief us that it is central nervous system dysfunction so affects all ..or at least many bodily functions..so its possible that bed wetting could be another unusual symptom of basically our brains and nerves firing all wrong.

Many including me have over active and painful bladders that give all the symptoms of infection with no infection present..when mine is at its worst the pain is very severe and my lady bits swell get hot and i feel like i need to wee constantly and also almost like i could have an accident..like its all irritated and affecting the nerves that give control.

Maybe your has gone a step further and actually causes bed wetting but as its only night time thats not quite the same if you are fine in the day.

Im no expert but i know anxiety can also cause night time bed wetting from children and probably older...maybe once it happens a few times your anxiety is subconsciously higher and causes it to happen in your sleep.

I wish you good luck in your search for solutions.

I have heard and read that sometimes there are bedwetting issues with Fibromyalgia. I've never come across any reasons why this happens as it wouldn't seem to have a connection but apparently it can happen with some people.

I've known this to happen with heavy drinkers into adulthood; but obviously there's no connection there.

Back to Fibromyalgia; could it be the side effect of medications; just a thought.

Thanks for the reactions. I should really get over my shyness/anxiety and go to a sleep study center and figure this out.

I have not been back to any doctor for my bed wetting for over 20 years now (I don't wet the bed anymore and honestly, I just want to forget those 22 years). So it was the science/diagnostics of that era and even now, the exact cause of night time incontinence is unknown. So we focused on solving the problem. (medication for a stronger bladder + different sleeping patterns and specific hormone pills controlling night time urine production)

I thankfully do not take any meds anymore. One of the meds allowed my bladder to become incredibly strong over a period of 15 years, and since my diagnosis with fibro, I don't sleep very deeply, so I now am awake to go to the toilet.

I read somewhere that fibro might (also) be caused due to a wrong sleeping pattern - that our body never gets the chance to rest and recuperate during sleep, which causes all the fatigue, pains and breaks in our nerve system.

Adult bed wetting is still such a taboo topic, but somehow I hope to find others here and share insights and experiences. Thanks again for posting.

Hugs

I went through four years of over active bladder.it was hell.im so sorry u have suffered so long,I read that the brain has to connect to the bladder in order to stop u wetti g the bed in childhood.and until that happens nothing will stop a child.how you heard of that.do they know why u have suffered so long,
I beilive fibro can affect every part of they body.your bladder can be affected im sure on that.

How did your over active bladder calm forgetmenot..i know you said diet ..ive tried everything....i know all the low oxylate no acidic foods or drinks diet and take bicarbonate of soda as soon as it starts..nothing really helps mine when it flares up and the pain is horrendous not just when you go but all the time in my pelvis bladder urethra and bottom....and is pretty permanent for parts of most days now or for a few days at a time and even when it subsides the pain is never gone. Delightful!

Hi Vickithecat,

I'm sorry you had to experience that
I misread your post.Im glad you found the right medications to control it.And hopefully the sleep study will give u some insight.

I know some patients do experience bladder problems with Fibro.I myself experienced bladder spasms, and meds helped.

I did hear of a bladder pacemaker, but do not know much about it. They can control leakage and other issues with a device that is placed under the skin.
It is attached to the sacral nerves which in turn communicate with the brain.
This might be helpful to someone that meds were not successful. They can talk to their specialist about it.

I thought I might mention it.
