Hi Everyone- I am new to the site. I have a question regarding my pain. I have read all I can find on fibromyalgia and it all describes "generalized pain". However, I have what I call my "traveling pain". Two weeks ago my feet were killing me, it hurt to walk. Last week it was my chest. The last two days it has been my jaw and gums. Is this normal for fibro? Everything I read makes me feel like I should have pain everywhere all of the time. But I only have localized pain, albeit all of the time. The only constant is a headache. I get headaches daily. I would appreciate any feedback. My primary has mentioned a fibro diagnosis. I am seeing a rheumatologist in two months (first available appointment). Thanks for any insight.

Hi dms1971...welcome ,yes i believe fibro can be localized for some who have milder fibro and for many it moves around depending on what muscles and joints you are using as well as just random pain anywhere. i wish you luck with your appointment and hope you get some answers.Hopefully you have the mildest if it is fibro and with some medical help can continue to have a good life with any pain under control.

Welcome to the Fibro family
Yes it does move. All the time,I can have pain in my feet for a few days or a few weeks ,then I might wake up and it's in my shoulders. Or my neck. Or my arms.
Also when they say pain all over then they can mean u hurt all over like u have the flu.
Or u hurt everyday.doesn't mean it has to be everywhere all at once.x

I usually have pain in my feet every morning, in my lower back every evening, and in my hips every time I take a flight of stairs. Everything else is random from shoulders, chest, neck, face, upper back, hands, upper arms, and headaches. Overdoing it will bring pain in that area. Frequent extended breaks help reduce the pain and the duration of pain. When I've really overdone it, I do absolutely nothing for a few days except treat myself like I'm sick and sleep a lot. This is a hellish balancing act, but I'm surviving.

I have some pain that is always in the same place and some pain that moves around. Some of the pain is random, but some if it is from something I did. It's a good idea to keepa written log of your symptoms. You may notice some patterns as to what makes it better or worse.

I get the traveling pain too. Usually it hangs out somewhere for a month or two then goes elsewhere. First it was hand pain, then foot pain, then horrible migraines, neck pain, throat/glandular, chest/breast, and now abdominal (and still the chest pain). Unfortunately today I got a lot of everything. I kept a pain diary for a while but it was the same thing every day so I got tired of it. I rarely take medications for it but have been in pain at some point every day for at least the past year.

One thing that did help my headaches and neck aches was acupuncture. It took a few sessions to help. I haven't been in a while (the doctor said I could stop going when I felt better) but I think I'll start going again.

I always have pain in various places, but it definitely moves around its focus. Hands/arms to legs/feet to lower back to upper back to shoulders to neck to shins to hips etc.

I also always have the tender points - touching me even lightly in certain spots feels like you are poking me in a really bad bruise.

Good luck with your diagnosis and treatment options, I agree that tracking your symptoms is a good idea - and will be helpful when you see the specialist.
