Hello,

I have myofascial pain syndrome and my mother takes care of my as a result of my disability. However, my mother is hearing impaired and losing more and more of her hearing. The sound quality that she hears is getting poorer and poorer as her auditory system continues to not work in a way that a normal auditory system is supposed to work.

She now has severe hearing loss and cannot understand normal speech sounds.

How can I support her when she is my caregiver?

I feel your angst> My father had hearing loss, too.
1. Make an appt to see an ear specialist to make sure her ears aren't clogged with wax and get her hearing tested.
2. If you or she cannot afford hearing aids-a lot of paces have payment plans that may work out for her.
3. If hearing aid from Beltone, your ear doctor or any other place arn't an option try searchingthe Internet for a less expensive "hearing aid" and make sure you can return it if it doesn't work.
4. I bought a dry erase board and communicated short messages with my father using that.
5. I also had found that my father "heard" better or read my lips if I talked to him straight on face-to-face. Many people with hearing loss just instintively start to lip read so talking face to face helps them out.
