Hello everyone I have been in chronic pain for over a year now and we are pretty sure it's fibro. My life has been totally disrupted by this and I struggle with admitting I can no longer do things I once took for granted. looking forward to meeting other fighters of this crazy thing called fibro.

Re: Another canadian Newbie

Welcome to the forum. I think dealing with the pain and the loss of ability to do things that you enjoy hurts the worest. My own experience was very depressing as I had my own business and had to quit it, due to fibro, so I can understand your feelings and frustrations, of living with this illness. I hope you can feel at home enough here to join in on the discussions and share opinions and thoughts, on the topic's in the forum. The lists of questions are endless, but the hope in new friends who understand you is high. Ask anything. Feel free to vent or rant, about the pain or hopelessness you feel, and we will try to cheer you up and make you smile.

Hi Mandamae, welcome :)

Have you been to the doctor, not that they're always that helpful, but at least starting on a road to find an understanding doctor is a good step. It can be frustrating, but it's worthwhile.

Hi Mandamae, welcome :)

I have been to the doctor A LOT lol I have my family doctor trying to help, a Neurologist for my chronic migraines, A OB/GYN specialist for Endometriosis, and a Chiropractor for my degenerative disc disease and arthritis of the facet joints. I am on a wait list for a pain clinic at a hospital in Toronto but the wait is 2 years and I am looking for a pain management doctor that can see me sooner. When I asked my family Dr about fibro his response was "oh you have fibromyalgia" but when I asked about seeing a rhumatologist he said there wasn't much a rhumatologist could do to help me but if I can find a pain management doctor he will refer me anywhere I want to go.

Hellooo. Your not far from my neck of the woods.
Fibro is still one of those things that I think some doctors really don't know what to do with. Doesn't help us much though.
If you find someone that listens weather it be family Dr, pain specialist or other medical person hang on to them for dear life and they should be able to get you seeing all the right people.
I'm half way there. I have a pain guy that takes Fibro seriously but I'm still unsure if he fully takes me seriously. That and the fact he buggers off for the winter is a bit inconvenient.
Best of luck

Hello fellow Canadian

I found a fabulous doctor in Orillia. Dr. Collins. Well worth the visit and I live in Northern Ontario.

I think I'll ask David if he can make something for us to track doctors that specialize and/or are knowledgeable and/or are sympathetic to those of us with fibromyalgia. I would have loved to have a list like that for Texas a few years back, and I'm sure I'm not the only one that had similar troubles finding a good doctor. Not to be cynical, lol, but it really seemed hard to find a good doctor lately, more so than "back in the day".

I know in Ontario, Canada, finding a doctor who is sympathetic and understanding and on top of the research is not easy to find. Dr. Collins, Orillia, Ontario, Canada was a wonderful find for me.

I spoke to David and he put together a Doctor's Listing service, you can see it's advertised on the Facebook page. I wasn't expecting he'd do anything about it so quickly, but he did.

He emailed me it was online so I added your Dr. Collins. I found information on a "rate your md" website so hopefully it's correct.

If anyone else wants to add their doctor, or a doctor they know is good with fibro you can do so here: Fibromyalgia Doctors | Fibromyalgia Forum and Support Group

You can see the Dr. Collins page here: Dr. David Collins | Fibromyalgia Forum and Support Group
