Trigger Points

Definition: 

Small areas of muscle that are similar to tender points in that the application of mild pressure produces pain. 

Trigger points or trigger sites, often referred to as muscle knots, are spots in muscle that are associated with tight bands of muscle fibers.  Compression, pushing or squeezing of a trigger point may create local and immediate pain, tenderness, a twitch response.
