I’ve recently started to think I’m very likely to have had fibromyalgia since childhood. I’m going to the sliding scale clinic to try to get a referral tomorrow to eventually see a specialist, however long it will take. If I do have it, it will at least finally explain countless things.

Another issue I’ve always had is severe year round allergies. Whenever my rhinitis is especially bad, my entire body goes haywire. I recently started a new job that I had to quit after ten days. Ever since then I’ve had the worst tingling, numbness, pains, brain fog, etc. ever, along with the usual sinus/eye itching of allergy attacks (and yes, I did go to the emergency room two days ago to have them evaluate me as much as they could, which of course isn’t much since they’re not specialists).

I was working in the wares section of an exceptionally large and busy Goodwill. Not only was this job very strenuous, fast-paced, and full of overwhelming encounters with the public, but I was also dealing with tons of dust, cobwebs, smoke residue, animal hair, and who knows what all, from all the items I had to sort through. I feel like that last part could be a big factor, since it was so much of it day after day. Any of you with allergies, do you feel like they’re a really big trigger for flare-ups?

I also have allergies and some days...like when the wind blows....are worse than others. Sorting through stuff donated to a Goodwill kind of store is likely to bring you into contact with things that may not be good for you so it's good you are not doing that any more.

If you do have allergies and they are set off, whatever kind they are, that can negatively affect your fibro symptoms, simply because your body now has to deal with more possibly negative influences, if for no other reason. I don't find that my allergies bring on more fibro pain, but it might be a trigger for others.

I too believe I've had fibromyalgia tag along conditions as young as six. I was never able to hold my pee during long school assemblies, that, I think was the Interstitial cystitis. Then 13 years later, got IBS. At about age 32 came excruciating neck muscle and tendon pain, which I believed was from lifting boxes at work and self massaged for relief. I was diagnosed at age 55,
and there have also been strange issues with low body temp 95 to 97, numbness, sharp pin type pricking feeling, itching, burning eyes, dry nasal, peeling lips, migraines, hip mobility and pain issues and knee pain. Interesting tho my hip pain is right side, knee, left one. Shoulders and neck, both sides.

Hi Klickkat - I'm wondering if MCAS might not explain all the "skin cell" reactions, like IC, IBS, pin pricking, itching, eyes/nose/lips. And dryness (of skin/eyes/nose/lips) might have to do with Sjögren's, altho it doesn't sound it, or just "sicca syndrome". MCAS as a label helps more tho, cos possibly we can find more ideas about triggers that way.
Have you found things that work for all this stuff? I'm interested cos I have similar, and have found lots of things that work, but am always interested in enlargening my toolbox.
