I just got Gabapentin- Any feedback would be great

There seems to be some confusion on correct drug names. Gabapentin is Neurontin. Lyrics is Pregabalin. I think by giving a drug a nickname 1. It could confuse newbies to this forum. 2. It makes us sound like drug addicts.

When is it okay to take narcotics?

It is up to your doctor to keep you free of pain and for you to have "quality of life"! I would ask him for pain relief each time you visit him.

Does anyone take narcotic pain meds, and what do you think of them

I am prescribed Oxycodone for my chronic pain. This is the only opiode that doesn't hurt my stomach. It's a drug that I can function on without being groggy or sleepy. I have controlled release (12 hr.) pills and instant release (4-6 hr.) pills. I don't abuse this drug, but am grateful for it.

    What is your hobby?

There are lots of interesting people here! I used to ride and train horses, but don't have one right now. I have two small terriers which take a lot of my time. I am also caring for my boyfriend who has terminal cancer. I love to sew and would like to write.

Hi Ruralchick, gabapentin needs to be titrated. That means that the dose needs to be gradually increased for it to work. Eventually you will find a level that maintains.

What helps you to sleep and manage your pain?

I take a 10 mg. Flexeril (Cyclobenzaprine) for sleeping. It is a muscle relaxer as I get spasms. If I have a back spasm during the day, I will only take 1/2 a pill and lie down with a heating pad. You won't build up a tolerance for this drug. You need a perscription from your Doctor.

What helps you to sleep and manage your pain?

When I was on Gabapentin, it worked very well for the sharp sudden nerve pains. It also gave me a great sleep. I would still get up during the night to use the washroom, but I would fall asleep again easily. I also felt it caused "brain fog" during the day.

Gabapentin (Neurontin) as a treatment for FMS?

I used Gabapentin and it did help the nerve pain. It did cause me to have brain fog. So much so that I forgot to pack it for my vacation! I have stayed off it for now as I hate being in that fog. It was great as a sleep aid, also. You can avoid the dizziness by increasing your dose very...

    D-ribose

Thanks for your reply Fibrodaze! Can I ask what dose you are taking? I am only taking one teaspoon twice a day and it is helping. I am going through a period of extreme exhaustion and if I forget to take it I can't get moving. I know I wouldn't be able to get of the couch if I wasn't taking it...

    D-ribose

Hi again and thanks for the welcome! Anyone can google and get more info, but as I see it, d-ribose helps muscle energy and decreases pain, cramps and stiffness after exercise. I found info from Jacob Teitelbaum, MD who has done a study on its effects on people with fb.
