Hi, everyone. I'm not sure when I was here last, but I'm pretty sure it was before I saw the pain specialist. I could tell by the way he was talking that he doesn't put *much* stock in fibromyalgia diagnoses, but he did say that it often has an underlying cause. He named off a few different things, ALL of which I have a history of. One was hyperflexion. When he said that, I told him I've never been *overly* flexible, then asked for an example. He named a few things that I used to do all the time! I thought those things were reasonably normal, but apparently not.

Anyway, he has put me on the wait list for IV infusion therapy with lidocaine & ketamine. Has anyone else had this treatment, and did it have much effect on your ability to function?

While everything has a "cause", the cause(s) of fibromyalgia are as yet unknown, so if your doctor thinks he knows what causes it he is overstating his abilities. Certainly, hyperflexion is not something that causes fibromyalgia.

I would suggest you be very cautious with the drug treatment that he is suggesting, and start at very low doses, because ketamine can be dangerous and can definitely impair functional ability.

Thanks for responding, Sunkacola. I'm pretty sure he just doesn't believe fibromyalgia is a real condition; he was starting what he thinks causes the symptoms fibromyalgia presents with. Hyperflexion causes problems later in life, for sure, but that's a different thing. I knew I was going to run into at kest one medical professional who still doesn't believe fibromyalgia is real. As for the infusion therapy, I was hoping someone else would be able to share their experience with it. I'll give it a try, but I dont want to become dependent on the ketamine.

Thank you! I'll let you all know how it goes.
